What is Dinner in the Dark?

Probably the most talked about dating event, Dinner in the Dark quite literally is eating a multi-course dinner in complete darkness, and we mean complete darkness!!

Urbansocial, the one-stop shop for dating in the UK, reviews the latest dating events on the market, and gives their verdict and tips.
Urbansocial members receive the latest information and exclusive offers and discounted tickets to the best dating events in the UK.

What Happens?

Dinner in the Dark events are typically held in upmarket venues, which are especially adapted for the evening. On arrival, you receive a complimentary cocktail, and have the chance to mingle with other guests at the bar, before being given an introduction about what’s in store. Guests are then taken up to the restaurant in groups of four or six. This is where things get interesting!

You are led into the pitch black restaurant one-by-one by waiters wearing night vision goggles, who take you to your table. There, you introduce yourself to the others on your table and discuss tactics for successfully identifying and eating your 5 courses!! Thankfully, all courses are finger food, so you won’t be too full by the end of the evening, and you won’t have any nasty accidents with the cutlery.

Who’s it For?

Dinner in the Dark attracts singletons who are game for a laugh, and want to try something a bit different. The events are age bracketed, so you can ensure that you are in the company of a similar aged crowd. Interestingly enough, when the lights go up over dessert, it usually turns out to be a pretty good looking crowd of people.

Urbansocial Verdict

If an evening of sophistication (tasting gourmet food) mixed with mystery (what am I eating?) and intrigue (what do the people around me look like?) sounds up your street, then this is definitely for you. Remembering the whereabouts of your wine glass/beer without knocking it over and imagining what your dinner companions look like, is truly a unique and amusing experience that you will definitely want to tell your friends about! You never know, you might be in for a nice surprise when the lights go up!

Urbansocial Tips

  • You can go by yourself to this event because the organisers make sure that everyone is split up for the meal anyway
  • Hang around after the meal, as you are all in high spirits from the experience, and you can really spot the talent and exchange dining tales
  • Breath fresheners and your best fragrance are a good idea
  • Don’t wear white!
  • Other companies have recently started doing their own versions of Dinner in the Dark. They are unlikely to be as good quality, and will probably involve you being blindfolded instead.
